Baths come in all shapes and sizes but by far the most popular is the straight bath.
It’s a traditional look that never goes out of fashion but don’t think that by choosing this timeless classic that it has to be dull. You can still make it an eye-catching feature of any bathroom.
What is a straight bath?
Firstly, let’s look at what a straight bath is.
The shape is that of a rectangle, however, the modern straight bath can have many variants when it comes to its look. It might be a sleek and minimalist, rectangle, or have curved ends. Its exterior could have sharp geometric edges, but the interior could be voluptuously curved. It can be a traditional style that is found in bathrooms all over the world, or ultra-modern. Whatever your bathroom scheme there will be a straight bath that will fit right in.
What are the benefits of straight baths?
One major advantage is that they are flexible and will suit almost any bathroom big or small.
They can be fitted against a wall or slotted into a recess or corner. The straight bath can make a designer statement too if that’s what you’re looking for. For example, the addition of striking taps can transform it from a classic to something more impactful. And as far as budgets go, if you want a bath that is more cost effective, you’re likely to have a wider choice if you opt for a straight bath style.
What types of straight baths are there?
Single ended
You’ve probably plunged into this kind of bath hundreds of times before. It’s the design we all recognise. At one end a set of taps and at the other a slope where we can recline comfortably while we soak. The advantage of this bath is in its simplicity. It’s also probably the most wallet-friendly style around.
Double ended
This is a more elevated version of the straight bath as the taps are positioned in the middle of the bath, leaving both ends free for relaxing. Not only does this add a touch of spa like luxury, but it makes it the perfect bath for sharing with someone else. A large double ended bath might also be a solution if you have small children who can all bathe happily together.
Keyhole bath
This is a straight bath where the interior is keyhole shaped – i.e. one end is wider than the other so that you can enjoy a spacious shower at one end, or simply have more room for a relaxing soak.
Can a straight bath fit with any bathroom design?
The flexibility of the straight bath is what makes it such a popular choice. As we’ve explained, there are different shapes, from clean straight-lined baths to curvy designs and you can introduce style features to compliment the type of bathroom such as vintage taps in a period home, a waterfall bath mixer for a contemporary look, or bath panels in a finish that works with your paint scheme.
