This is one question that can be open to interpretation.
After all, there are those who invest in a kitchen update after a couple of years. Maybe they want to be ahead of the game when it comes to kitchen trends, or they could just get bored with the same look after a while, or maybe if money’s no object then why on earth shouldn’t you? But if we are being realistic, then most of us will have a reason for a kitchen revamp.
You want your kitchen to function more efficiently.
You may have had enough trying to work around a difficult layout.
You may see a new kitchen as a way of increasing your home’s resale value.
You may want a new kitchen to fit in more with the rest of the home’s style.
You want a kitchen that has more eco-friendly features.
How do you know it’s the right time to buy a new kitchen?
When you start getting ‘kitchen envy’ looking at what other people have done to their kitchen, then start planning. There’s no time like the present to get inspired. Of course, if you’re updating a house, or feel you’ve lived long enough with the same old tired units and appliances, then what’s stopping you? There are kitchen options out there to suit everyone on any kind of budget.
If you are looking for a bargain you might want to buy your kitchen in the sales, but remember that a kitchen also needs expert installation. In fact February is seen as a good time to get a kitchen fitted as most people want to get theirs revamped in time for Christmas, or don’t want the disruption when they have their children at home in the school holidays so kitchen fitters have a fallow period after the New Year.
When shouldn’t you invest in a new kitchen?
One reason you may want a new kitchen is to get your house ready for sale. It is a fact that a beautiful new kitchen increases the saleable value of your property by at least five per cent, however, installing a new kitchen for a prospective buyer isn’t always a good thing.
Limited budget or planning to move? Do you need a full remodel, or would a door exchange be better?
Many home buyers want to ‘put their own stamp’ on a property and guess where they’re most likely to do that? Right. The kitchen. So all that financial outlay (not to mention the disruption while a new kitchen is being installed) could be for nothing. And putting a cheaper end kitchen into a higher end home may even devalue the property. Under these circumstances you may want to just leave the kitchen alone, or maybe just change the doors of the cabinets, or upscale the work surfaces.
Having considered all the pros and cons however, the benefits of a new kitchen will always outweigh the negatives. You’ll have a beautiful, efficient space where you can cook, entertain and have quality family time and with that in mind, the best time to buy a new kitchen is when you decide you want one!
